On a gorgeous homecoming Saturday, head coach CJ Hallman was seeking a homecoming victory over rivals Benilde-St. Margaret’s. He came close, but his Islanders ran out of steam in overtime to a talented BSM team.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first quarter as the defenses dug in. The Islanders opened the scoring in the game mid-way through the second quarter with a pass from junior running back Sage Booker to junior Jevon Brekke for a touchdown. De missed the extra point to make the score 6-0. BSM answered back with two touchdowns from their star running back Ricky Floyd to make the score 13-6 heading into half.
After going back and forth in the third, DeLaSalle’s Da’San Frazier threw to Jevon Brekke for a 5-yard touchdown pass, and then converted on the two-point conversion with a pass to Jevon Brekke to make the score 14-13 Islanders. BSM came back with a 28-yard field goal at the end of third quarter to put the Red Knights up going into the 4th quarter 16-14.
It was Ricky Floyd again who scored for BSM as he rattled off a 30-yard run for a touchdown and a missed XPT made the scoreline 22-14 with three minutes left to go in the game. The Islanders answered right back with a 56-yard touchdown pass from Frazier to JT Baker. Booker punched in the two-point conversion to even the scoreline 22-22.
Overtime saw BSM score a touchdown on a 9-yard pass over the middle, and DeLaSalle simply couldn’t find the endzone as the Red Knights held on a for 29-22 win.
The Islanders travel to Spring Lake Park this Friday. Sept. 30 for their homecoming game in a tough match-up. Kickoff is at 7:00 pm.
